Mikki Willis, a filmmaker from Ouja, California, took the internet by storm when he uploaded a video showing his unconditional love and acceptance towards his sons, eventually gaining the title of "Father of the Year."
It all started on a day when Willis took his sons to the toy store to exchange a present for something else when his son, Azai, picked up a little Mermaid doll. Probably surprised at his son's choice, he decided to tape his thoughts when he promised his sons that he will love and accept them no matter what life they choose.
The video was uploaded by the filmmaker on Aug. 21 on Facebook, along with the caption, "How would you feel if your son chose this?" His overwhelming response has been viewed more than 18 million times since then and has been shared by 282 thousand internet users.
Since the video went viral, Willis' social networking account is flooded with congratulatory messages, commending him on his superb parenting skills. Some internet users have even taken the pain to provide the viral video with subtitles in foreign language to spread his message of unconditional love.
"I feel overwhelmed and real overjoyed about the attention it's received and almost not at all surprised," Willis told ABC News later.
Despite his viral status, Willis has also been condemned for glorifying his act and labeling his son as homosexual. An online commentator was quick to point out that only because his four-year-old son chose a doll as a toy, one should not label him as gay or homosexual.
Willis uploaded another post to address the critics in which he wrote that he is simply granting his kids the freedom so that in future, they honor their natural sexual feelings without any fear or inhibition.
While talking with Babble, Willis also hinted that he, along with sons, is already planning his next video. Meanwhile, check out the viral video of "Father Of The Year" here:
