Patrick Dempsey will reportedly join the cast of the third "Bridget Jones Diary" movie alongside Renee Zellweger and Colin Firth (Mark Darcy). Recent reports suggest that the "Grey's Anatomy" alum will come between the couple in the film.
"Bridget Jones' Baby" set to release on Oct. 2 is a follow up to 2001's "Bridget Jones' Diary" and 2004's "Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason." The third film will again be directed by Sharon Maguire, who also helmed the last two movies.
According to Deadline, Dempsey may take on the role of Hugh Grant's Daniel Cleaver after the actor decided to pass on the franchise.
Speaking to Telegraph, Grant confirmed that he will no longer reprise his role in the next movie. His decision was made after he read the revised script. The actor shared that the production has decided to continue the franchise without him.
Meanwhile, the publication also reported that Helen Fielding, creator of Bridget Jones character, is very much involved in the script. She revealed that it would offer an alternative version to what she wrote in the third book in the series titled, "Mad About Boy," which confirmed that the movie will be different from the novel. One of the main differences was Darcy will not be killed off in the film adapatation.
"Bridget Jones' Baby" will reportedly follow the life of Jones as she turned 40. It was said that she is yearning for a baby. Firth and Shepherd's character will reportedly volunteer to be the protagonist's baby daddy in the next installment.
