Japanese automaker Honda recently unveiled the 10th generation 2016 Honda Civic at an event in Detroit and will go on sale in fall.
According to Detroit Free Press, the last Honda Civic model was released in 2012. The last model was highly criticized for not being able to live up to its reputation. On the other hand, Honda claims that the new Civic was engineered in order to reignite its owner's enthusiasm.
The 2016 Civic ditches the cab forward design. It is lower and features a longer hood that offers it a sportier look compared to its predecessor. The new Civic will also sport a new engine and transmission that promises to provide additional horsepower while at the same time retaining fuel efficiency.
In a statement posted by Autoblog, American Honda Motor executive vice president John Mendel said, "We are bringing more new technology and innovative thinking to Civic than ever before to establish a new benchmark for fun-to-drive performance, fuel efficiency, safety performance and refinement in the compact class."
Mendel added that the 2016 Civic will available as a sedan, as a five-door hatchback and as a coupe. These variants will also include performance-oriented models and will be branded with either a Type R or a Si badge.
Honda said that majority of the Civics that will be sold in the United States will be assembled in plants from Alliston, Ontario and Greensburg, Indiana. On the other hand, Honda also confirmed that the hatchback model will be assembled in the United Kingdom.
