Shaquille O'Neal has long been retired after a successful and colorful career. However, hoops will not take a rest in the O'Neal household.
The son of Shaq Diesel is already making waves in recruiting circles. Shareef O'Neal, an incoming sophomore has college offers already.
Last May, Shareef already confirmed through his Twitter account (since deleted, h/t CBS) that the University of Southern California (USC) Trojans have formally offered him a scholarship.
"I am blessed receive an offer from the University of Southern California."
Last August, it was also reported by 24/7 Sports that fellow California school and arch rival of USC, UCLA has also tendered an offer.
"The son of Shaquille O'Neal's son Shareef O'Neal has been offered by UCLA according to grassroots coach and promoter Dinos Trigonis. The Bruins join USC as schools who have offered O'Neal."
The question is, can Shareef fill out the famously huge, size 22 shoes of his father? Shareef is not a behemoth like his dad at 6'8 and 190 lbs. His actually has a more well-rounded game which makes him better equipped with the faster pace of today's game.
We would expect him to get some pointers from his father, but it would be surprising what the four-time NBA champion taught him, as he revealed in an interview from Scout.com:
"I go train with him every summer and he teaches me more guard moves than post moves because he can dribble the ball pretty well," Shareef said. "And he knows how tall I'm going to be so he knows I can shoot the ball pretty well."
In the interview, he also revealed that he has an offer from Kansas State. However, he has scheduled his first visit from UCLA. When asked why he chose to visit the Bruins first, he replied.
"They came to some of my high school practices last year and they gave me recruiting tickets to some of their games. They've all been nice to me," Shareef said. "They speak to my dad all the time."
And the most important reason:"It's the closest one to my house, so it's easy," he laughed. It seems like he also has his dad's sense of humor.
