The Dallas Cowboys started off the season on a bittersweet note.
While they beat the New York Giants in a thriller that most people did not call, they also lost one of their best players in Dez Bryant. Bryant reportedly has an injury to his hamstring that will keep him out for 4-8 weeks.
What hurts even more is that they won't have Randy Gregory, who also fell to injury, and Greg Hardy, who has been ineligible to play for the Cowboys until their fifth game of the season against New England all the way in October.
To add insult to injury, the Cowboys next opponent will be the Philadelphia Eagles, a division rival that lured one of the Cowboys's former star players DeMarco Murray away from them. The Eagles are currently 0-1, and will be looking to take a win from the injured Cowboys. Starting the season off 0-2 is something the Eagles will be looking to avoid completely. The Eagles definitely have some sort of early sense of urgency and will be looking to capitalize next week.
Are they Cowboys doomed to lose against the Eagles and their next couple games with a star like Bryant out for the next couple games? Even without their player, the Cowboys should be fine for the time being. In a game like football which has a lot of different factors involved, Garrett should be able to adjust for the time being without Bryant and the others.
While his injury hurts the Cowboys in the short-term, this also allows Tony Romo to answer the never-ending debate of whether he is an "elite" quarterback. Romo has had many doubt his ability, but without a player of Bryant's calibre for the timing being, Romo will show just how good he is. The next game against the Eagles may be the start of that. While we can't be sure if the Cowboys will succeed in defeating the Eagles, expect them to play with a lot of heart.
