Republican presidential candidate hopeful Donald Trump recently said that he is not "morally obliged" to defend the current United States President Barrack Obama after one of the former's supporter called the latter a Muslim.
The issue came up on Sept. 17 when a man from New Hampshire stood up during an event and pointed that Muslims a problem of the country and proceeded to call President Obama as one of them.
After saying that the Muslims are a problem of the country, the man added, "We know our current president is one. You know he's not even American."
According to CBS News, one of Trump's campaign manager said that the sound in the room is pretty loud and Trump did not hear what the man said. In response to not being able to take necessary actions, Trump posted his stand on Twitter by posting, "Am I morally obligated to defend the president every time somebody says something bad or controversial about him? I don't think so!"
Trump added that President Obama would have done the same if that happened to him.
Trump is currently on top of the Republican list as front-runner to hold their banner in the upcoming election that is if the polls are to be believed. Trump is also the subject of so much debate in recent memory regarding his comments about immigration and women.
According to CNN, Trump's fellow Republican presidential contenders are split over the recent controversy.
Ted Cruz and Rick Satorum refused to criticize Trump and also kept their silence when asked if they believe if President Obama is a Christian. On the other hand, Jeb Bush, Lindsey Graham and Chris Christie believe that President Obama was born in the US and criticized Trump for not correcting the man who made the comment.
