Director Jon Watts has confirmed that upcoming "Spider-Man" film reboot is set to be Marvel's coming-of-age film.
In his interview with Empire Magazine issue 317, Watts said that fans were going to meet a high school Peter Parker and connect with the character as he deals with his superhero abilities, along with his coming-of-age. The director added that with a lot of times Uncle Ben was killed in various "Spider-Man" films, he felt great to helm a coming-of-age high school film in the form of Marvel's "Spider-Man" film reboot.
According to Cinema Blend, Watts' take on his forthcoming "Spider-Man" film entails that fans could be seeing Parker as a young kid prior to going to Empire State University. This element is in contrast with Sam Raimi's "Spider-Man," with Tobey Maguire's Parker as a college student. Also, Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man saw a bit older version of the character in Marc Webb's "The Amazing Spider-Man 2."
One reason that Marvel chose to reboot the "Spider-Man" film is the relationship of the iconic web-slinger with the other superheroes in Marvel's Cinematic Universe. With fans having seen various superheroes in a mature age in previous Marvel films, Spider-Man's age will factor in in the development of his and other characters' story arc in Marvel's Cinematic Universe.
Tom Holland is set to debut the iconic superhero in the Joe Russo and Anthony Russo's upcoming film prior to his appearance in Watts' "Spider-Man" solo film. According to writers John Francis Dailey and Jonathan M. Goldstein, their version of Spider-Man will be amusing and crafty, despite of being a bore and a loner.
Watts' "Spider-Man" is slated to premiere in theaters in the United States on July 28, 2017while the Russos' "Captain America: Civil War" is set hit theaters on May 6, 2016.
