‘Empire’ Season 2 Spoilers: Grace Gealey Reveals Anika’s Dynamics With Cookie Lyon, Lucious Lyon

“Empire” season 2 star Grace Gealey recently talked about what fans can expect from her character Anika Calhoun as well as Cookie Lyon (Taraji P. Henson) and Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard).

In an interview with The Wrap, Gealey said that Cookie Lyon and Anika Calhoun are very similar in a lot of ways even though they are very different. She explained that the two “Empire” characters are both very indomitable, independent, and purpose-driven businesswomen.

“Sometimes when that can walk hand in hand it can reap very powerful results.,” Gealey added. “And I think as you follow them along this journey you get to see them negotiate that.”

According to Gealey, fans will definitely see some interesting twists and turns in Cookie Lyon and Anika Calhoun’s dynamic in “Empire” season 2 and it is going to be much more multi-dimensional than it was in season 1.

In addition, Gealey said she does not think there is hope for Lucious Lyon and Anika Calhoun in “Empire” season 2 as there has been so much history with the two of them. She said the two may neither get back together nor talk about wedding plans again in the upcoming season.

About the recent Emmy snubs, Gealey told People that the fanbase and all the attention the Fox hit series has are a great leveler. She explained, “When you're a part of a show you put so much into it, you've invested so much that you really would like to see that be recognized in a different way.”
