While ABC's "Once Upon a Time" season 5 is set to returns on Sept. 27, Sunday, fans of the show should expect to see big changes and tests for Emma Swan as the Dark One. At the same time, season 5 will see Regina (Lana Parrilla) stepping into the light.
Jennifer Morrison who plays Emma Swan told Access Hollywood on the red carpet at HBO's Emmys party concerning her character as the Dark One in season 5. Morrison said, "Emma's in a bad place."
The actress added that there is a lot going on, especially after winding up an exciting season 4. Morrison seems ready to face the new challenge and play the role in the best way possible.
"There's no limit to the bizarre things that she's coming up against and the changes that are within her, because Dark Ones lie and Dark Ones manipulate and Dark Ones hurt people and this is all very different for Emma Swan, so it's going to be very different," Morrison continued on Emma's fate in season 5.
In "Once Upon a Time" season 5 episode 1, Emma will also face a "Brave" character, Merida, played by "Once" guest star and Scottish actress Amy Manson.
Morrison teased that Merida is absolutely perfect and acknowledged the fact that executive producers Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis do a great job in finding talented people for the right role.
Morrison said, "They do an amazing job of finding people that are really just dead on and she has a lovely energy and she's a wonderful actress and it's really great to have her on set."
Meanwhile, "Once Upon a Time" season 5 will not only focus on Emma Swan as the Dark One, but also delve into quite the opposite by exploring Regina as she steps into the light, Entertainment Weekly reported.
Talking about her character, Parrilla said that Regina is going to emerge a hero. Season 5 seems to be her journey in quest of becoming a hero and this will come as a great responsibility. She said, "We'll see her evolving into this role and we'll see where she ends up."
"Once Upon a Time" airs on Sept. 27, Sunday on ABC at 8/7c.
