A year after blazing its trail in European racing, the 2015 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 will eventually make its North American GTs racing premiere in 2016. This comes after a number of teams confirmed their plan to race in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship GT Daytona (GTD) category with the new Lambo race car.
According to Top Speed, the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 exclusive racing run in the series will happen in the opening race of the season - the Rolex 24 at Daytona - on Jan. 30 and 31, 2016.
A number of teams have chosen the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 for their race including Change Racing, O'Gara Motorsports, and Konrad Motorsport. The Konrad Motorsport team has settle for Lamborghini Huracan GT3 for its full-time comeback to the endurance racing positions next season, Autosport reported.
The German squad Konrad Motorsport is buying two Huracan GT3 cars for two programs in North America and Europe, which will take place in 2016 after considering Porsche's upcoming 997-shape 911 GT3-R.
Franz Konrad, who has a close relationship with Porsche since the 1970s, said that he has tested the Lamborghini himself two times and believes that it is a great car.
"Maybe it was time to change away from Porsche in endurance racing to give us some new energy, and it is also the cheaper way," Konrad added
The team boss explained that Porsches could not assure delivery of a car in time for next January, a time when his team will commence the 2016 program with attacks on the 24-hour races in Dubai and Daytona.
Team Konrad is planning a full-time campaign in the Blancpain Endurance Series with at least one Huracan and an assault on GT Dayton class of the four endures that comprise the North American Endurance Cup element of the IMSA SportsCar Championship.
