Google recently announced that it will introduce the block and unsubscribe feature on the Android and desktop version of Gmail. This new feature will allow Gmail users to easily filter their email inbox and offers an easy way to block unwanted email senders.
Before the introduction of the new block and unsubscribe feature, Gmail users can only create filters in order to sort out their emails. According to Forbes, this new feature is useful especially to people who receives online harassment as well as to block cyberbullies.
When a specific email address is blocked, the emails that they send will go directly into the spam folder. In case users accidentally blocked an email address, this can be easily changed in the Gmail Settings.
According to CNet, the feature was rolled out on Sept. 22 on both the Android and Web versions of Gmail. On the other hand, only the block feature was released on the mobile platform and Google said that it still working on releasing the unsubscribe feature very soon.
To use the new feature on Android, users only need to open the email of the sender they want to block, tap on the overflow menu located right next to the reply arrow and choose from Block or Unsubscribe on the drop down menu.
The Block feature will prevent any email from the sender to reach the users inbox. This feature is best used to avoid receiving annoying emails from people or from websites that do not have an unsubscribe feature.
The Unsubscribe feature will remove the user's email address from the mailing list of a certain website. This is best used to avoid unsolicited promotional ads from websites.
