Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi, who recently received the Best Actress award at the 56th Asia-Pacific Film Festival, announced Tuesday that she has won a 19-month defamation lawsuit against U.S.-based citizen journalism website Boxun over an alleged sex scandal.
Boxun posted "a statement of solemn apology" on its website Dec. 14.
It said in the statement that the reports about Zhang made money by high-ranking prostitution were unsupportable and improper. Those stories should have been published. Boxun expressed its sincere apologies to Zhang. All related articles and comments were taken off of their website. Boxun is truly sorry for the damage and loss that were caused by their actions. The statement was put up on their website on Dec. 17, 2013.
About the article came out on 16th, titled "Zhang Ziyi quietly settled defamation case, Attorney mentioned part of Boxun's reports were true", Boxun claimed that that Zhang has never been questioned in connection with any investigation related to the allegations set forth in those articles. Boxun has absolutely nothing to do with those reports.
Zhang also clarified on the 16th, saying that I already made myself straight on this lawsuit long time ago that I will never compromise. Neither the confidential settlement, nor the so-called attorney's words were true. My attorney and representatives will announce the US court decision on 17th. Any media or individuals who published untrue information about the lawsuit, we will look into its legal liabilities.
The rumor articles were pulled off later that day.
