Chinese handset maker Xiaomi's release of its latest Mi 4C product may disrupt the company's future strategy, according to Web portal Sina's technology blog.
Analyst Pan Jiutang said that Xiaomi entered the second half with the launch of new handsets every month, after a bland performance in the first half of 2015 with few new products.
Sina said that the company's launch of the Mi 4C on Sept. 22 is an indication of the company's concern over its annual sales target of 80 million units. The report said that the new handset was introduced to serve as the main product before the next generation of flagship model, the Mi 5, reaches the market.
Xiaomi had a dramatic launch of the Mi 4C in Beijing, with Xiaomi's rival Meizu being booked in the same hotel and held a pre-launch reception on the same day.
"In a hotel in Beijing, two groups of men in black gathered in the lobby and the atmosphere is tense. I thought it was a gang fight getting ready to take place. It turned out to be a launch of new handsets by Xiaomi and Meizu," one of the reporters wrote in a WeChat post.
According to reports, Xiaomi's new smartphone is expected to go on sale starting this month.
The Xiaomi Mi 4C comes with a USB Type-C cable, and have 2GB and 3GB RAM variants. The company has added the "double to unlock" feature in the new smartphone, which can also carry dual 4G SIM cards. Additionally, the smartphone is offered in a new orange box after the company discarded the plain packaging box.
Xiaomi Mi 4C features a 5-inch Full HD (1920x1080 pixels) IPS Display. It is powered by a 64-bit 1.8 GHz Hexacore Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 Processor. For graphics, it comes with an Adreno GPU.
Mi 4C also comes with a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop with MIUI 7.
