Google's YouTube is launching new ads to make it easier for users to buy the items featured in its product review videos. The video-sharing website has one million channels that are related to such clips.
YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki announced the new video clips at Advertisement Week's LAB MIXX Conference. It was held in New York City.
Today more video creators are uploading content on YouTube. Its shopping ads are an amalgamation of YouTube's True View and Cards.
The new ads show up as icons in the top-right corner of YouTube videos. After users click on that icon cards drop down.
This allows users to scroll through pictures and pricing information on the products spotlighted in the clip. Video creators can then opt in to the new service, creating a new source of revenue.
YouTube reported that product review videos' views have surged 40 percent during the last year, according to AdWeek. In addition, a new Google consumer survey revealed that 20 percent of users aged 18 to 24 years old find cool merchandise to buy there.
Brands can also use other types of videos to advertise on the video-sharing site. They include travel destinations and how-tos.
Google will test the new shopping ads this fall. Advertisers can earn income in the coming months when users click on the video ads.
YouTube also recently announced an ads-free subscription service that is set to launch next month, according to Engadget. The $10 offering will be bundled with Music Key. YouTube is giving content owners until October 22 to agree to the terms of the new version.
