The Beijing Railroad Authority is firing on all cylinders to keep more trains up and rolling through the tracks for the large volume of travelers during the Spring festival.
The Railroad Authority estimates that their number of trips could reach 52.6 million, up by almost five million by Jan. 27 to 28. In order to accommodate the rising volume of travelers, the Railroad Authority is increasing the number of trains rolling by 50 per day. The Beijing area alone will have 525 trains in service, an increase of 5.8 per cent. The Beijing-Tienjing area will see an increase of 20 percent.
For the Spring Festival season, there are 3421 ticket booths available, up by 150. Of these ticket booths, 491 are "assisted electronic booths" and 135 are automatic ticket booths. The Spring Festival travel season began on Jan. 16 and will run until Feb. 24 for a total of 40 days.
To ensure travelers' safety and convenience, Beijing authorities have stepped up efforts to continuously check the condition of the rails, the cars and all other railway facilities. Through the Spring festival season, there are inspectors deployed in all rail stations to ensure that ticketing booths are operating correctly and that there are sufficient number of workers, police officers and volunteers maintaining order.
In order to prevent injuries from overcrowding, rail authorities will regulate the flow of passengers coming in and out of the stations based on the schedule of train arrivals and departures during the busiest days.
