The Oculus Rift virtual reality headset has been dedicatedly created for the latest PCs manufactured by Dell, Alienware and Asus. The scheduled consumer launched is going to be held in 2016 but Oculus already revealed that they have designed a program for PCs.
High-end manufacturers like Alienware, Asus and Dell are the companies that are tied to work explicitly with the Oculus Rift VR headset. The program is called as "Oculus Ready" PCs that will have their systems work with optimized high performance for the Rift.
The announcement of the Oculus Ready PCs were made during the Oculus Connect conference held weeks ago.
The exact specs of the Oculus Ready PCs are yet to be disclosed. Some of the required specs for Oculus Rift are 8GB+ RAM with compatible HDMI 1.3 video output, 2x USB 3.0 ports and Windows 7 SP1 or the latest. The PC manufacturers have laid their prices starting from $949 up to $999 but Oculus have not disclosed the price for the Rift headset. Unofficial confirmation was made previously about the price ranging around $1500 for an "all-in" install, according to Game Spot.
The Oculus Ready PCs will have a special branding to show that their systems are compatible with the Rift. More likely, the specs of the Oculus Ready PCs will be publicized on or after the official launch in 2016. Comparison could not be prevented as some enthusiast compares the PlayStation VR to the Rift. PlayStation VR can directly be used in any PS4 units without additional hardware, while the Rift needs to connect to its compatible hardware before it can be used.
Competitor PS4 VR is said to be launching in 2016 but that is between the first and second half of next year.
