The race is on for Android flagships to jump to version 6.0 or Marshmallow. Motorola appears to be leading the pack but the latest is LG and HTC will soon bump their respective hero smartphones to the latest Google mobile OS real soon.

At the start of October this year, HTC sent out notice that Android 6.0 Marshmallow will indeed come to at least 12 devices that the Taiwanese firm has previously rolled out. As expected, the Marshmallow upgrade candidates were led by the HTC One M9 and HTYC One M8, Gotta Be Mobile reported.

The upcoming firmware jump was confirmed by HTC U.S. chief Jason Mackenzie, the blog report added.

"Serving up Marshmallow sweetness real soon. Android 6.0 to start hitting HTC before the end of the year," Mackenzie was reported by GBM as saying in a Twitter post.

As indicated in the shout out, HTC plans to start the Marshmallow rollout around December 2015, which is in line with the company's standing policy of deploying OS upgrades within a 90 days following Google's official release of the new Android.

The devices to get the bump include:

  • HTC One M9
  • HTC One M8
  • HTC One M9 Plus
  • HTC One e9 Plus
  • HTC One E9
  • HTC One ME
  • HTC One E8
  • HTC One M8 EYE
  • HTC Butterfly 3
  • HTC Desire 826
  • HTC Desire 820
  • HTC Desire 816

But Mackenzie also specified in his post that the One M9 and One M8 are the first in line to get the Android Marshmallow and the timing will start in the latter part of 2015. The statement suggests that the balance in the list will have to wait until early 2016.

LG, on the other hand, appears all set to accommodate the arrival of Google's new Android OS for the LG G4 and LG G3. This, at least, was hinted in LG Korea support page, according to G4Games, pointing to a screenshot that showed specific support menu for Android 6.0.

The clue, the report said, tells that "the company is already working on making the update available to some of its customers." It also floated the possibility of Marshmallow reaching the G4 and G3 earlier than expected.

Per the same report, the specific LG 2014 and 2013 flagships lined up for the imminent Android 6.0 Marshmallow are the LG G3  with model numbers F400S, F400K and F400L and the LG G4 bearing the serials F500S, F500K and F500L.
