Barely a month after his last fight, Floyd Mayweather, Jr. is already being mentioned in a report for the rematch with Manny Pacquiao.
According to an AFP Report (via Yahoo), the Filipino boxer and incumbent congressman confirmed that he is "in talks with both Mayweather and (Amir) Khan" and that the decision on his opponent will be announced on "November or December."
"I will fight anybody, anywhere," he said. "I am going to fight probably before the election.
"The election is coming next year, May, and before that I will probably have one fight."
He added: "We are going to finalise by November or December."
The eight-division Champion is in Qatar at because he was invited by AIBA president, Ching-Kuo Wu, a personal friend.
Yahoo Sports was skeptical about the fight happening before May since Mayweather is in retirement and does not seem to be in a hurry to return to the ring. He already tied Rocky Marciano's 49-0 record and there doesn't seem to be a reason to put that at risk-except one: Money.
"However, if there was one thing that made the rematch still seem possible it was the money and how much each fighter would be leaving on the table if they couldn't reach a deal on a rematch," Yahoo asserted.
They add: "Their highly anticipated bout earlier this year shattered all the records for a boxing match, generating nearly $600 million in revenue and making the fighters the two highest-paid athletes in the world. Even if a rematch generated only half of that interest, that is still a lot of money for both fighters - money they won't make anywhere else."
There is no opponent for either camp that would generate even a quarter of what they earned in their May duel, even if it was unanimously disappointing.
