Sharp recently unveiled its new RoBoHon robot smartphone at the Combined Exhibition of Advanced Technologies (CEATEC), Japan's largest tech show. While mobile device owners will not likely trade in their Apple, Android, Samsung, or Xiaomi handsets for the robot butler phone, it is a fun plastic toy that can talk, walk, and interact with humans.
RoBoHon has a 2-inch screen with a 320 pixels x 240 pixels resolution screen on the back, according to The Verge. It also contains a speaker and microphone, and supports Wi-Fi connectivity.
The phone's camera is located in the robot's head. Meanwhile, the photos and videos the gadget takes are displayed in the projector.
Voice control is one of the key features of the Sharp phone. RoBoHon can be ordered to take photos and shoot videos, set reminders on a digital calendar like Google Now and Siri, and even walk and dance.
The new robot butler can also perform various tasks for the user. That includes sending and receiving text messages, emails, calls, and notifications, according to iDigitalTimes.
RoBoHon automatically transforms into a mobile phone when there is an incoming call. It does that by extending its legs and moving its arms to its side.
Tomotoko Takahashi is the Sharp robot-phone's designer. He said that the Japanese company wants consumers to form a bond with the unique smartphone.
RoBoHon will be launched during the first half of 2016. In truth, most people would rather tote a large Galaxy Note 5 or iPhone 6S Plus with them. However, if Sharp's anthropomorphic robot has a low price point it could sell like hotcakes.
