Google experienced a massive yet brief crash on October 9, Friday, which was caused by the company's productivity apps. That included Google's spreadsheet tools, Slides, Drives, Sheets, and Docs, and eventually presentation tools including Google classroom. The search titan's turnaround time was ultra-fast, as it reported that Docs and Sheets were restored to near full capacity by 1:00 pm Pacific Time (PT) on Friday, and the other tools were up and running by 2:00 pm that same day.
The most common problems reported by users were error messages caused by the service disruption of spreadsheets, presentations, and documents made by using Google's productivity apps, according to The Market Business. Some users were also unable to access the Google Drive site.
The problem was posted on the California-based company's Apps Status Dashboard. Its tech administrators added a short message revealing that they were investigating the problem.
Google provided updates at around 4:00 pm and 5:00 pm Friday, asking that affected users have patience. Google Docs also sent an update through a Twitter post.
Google's cloud-based Docs application allows users to create real-time spreadsheets and documents. Fortunately for users the service's downtime was only a few hours.
On Friday Google reported at that the service of 99.5 percent of Google Drive, Docs, and Classroom crash-affected users had been restored by around 1:00 pm PT, according to Tech Crunch. A. full restoration was achieved by 2:00 pm.
