"Castle" star Nathan Fillion and co-showrunners Terence Paul Winter and Alexi Hawley recently went under fire among fans who questioned Rick Castle and Kate Beckett's (Stana Katic) storyline.
In the recent episodes of "Castle" season 8, it was revealed that Rick and Kate are taking some time off their marriage.
Following the controversial episodes, Fillion spoke with TV Line about Winter and Hawley's decision to split the onscreen couple again.
According to Fillion, he believes that Winter and Hawley both know what they are doing, and that their priority is for the fans to get hooked on the show once again.
The actor added that Winter and Hawley's main intention is for fans to star rooting for Rick and Kate once again.
However, fans were still not pleased with what they heard from Fillion because they believe that Rick and Kate doesn't need to be separated just to boost the show's ratings.
One fan claimed that he is not interested with what the showrunners have to say because they somewhat betrayed Rick and Kate's storyline.
"Writers have not re-energized the show as they keep saying. Just read all the Twitter remarks. Show is over and should be cancelled."
Another fan said that it's obvious the showrunners want to take fans back to season 1 when Rick and Kate were still getting to know each other.
However, doing this could also mean that there's no progress for the entire show.
"They are making no progress in resolving issues but have been building/exposing more issues," according to fan.
"Castle" season 8 airs Mondays at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
