Taipei and its hubbub of activity is not for everyone. Fortunately, tourists have a number of alternatives that allow them to enjoy Taipei’s wonders while avoiding the frenetic energy of the bustling city.

Every year, millions of tourists from mainland China and other parts of the world fly to Taipei to experience its art, culture, and cuisine. Data from Taiwan's Tourism Bureau estimate that tourists from mainland China alone number around 3 million, earning the top spot for the country's international visitors. With so many people going to Taipei for different reasons, how can an introvert enjoy his stay in this tourist hotspot?

One such activity is to simply sit down and enjoy a cup of coffee and perhaps a good piece of literature at a Taipei café. Coffee shops in the Taiwanese capital are renowned across the globe for being quirky and relaxing. From cat cafes to hidden artsy places where customers can get in touch with their artistic abilities, Taipei has just the café for different preferences.

Another option for introverts to enjoy their stay in Taipei is to take a bike tour of the city via the YouBike. Locals and travel bloggers recommend the Dunhua Road for its lush green environment and wide sidewalks.

Parks are also a popular place for tourists and locals alike if you're looking to escape the chaos of the city. Favorite green spaces include Dajia Riverside Park, Daan Park and Huashan Creative Park.

Meanwhile, art lovers can revel in great works of art by classical and contemporary artists in one of Taipei's many museums. Spending hours wandering the halls of the National Palace Museum or the Taipei Fine Arts Museum is not such a bad idea.

Another way to indulge in Taiwanese culture is to head to Maokong on a weekday and enjoy the scenery while drinking fine tea. A gondola ride in Maokong can also prove to be uplifting, especially without the crowds of tourists circling the area.
