Following the current trend on wealthy Indian families choosing luxurious wedding destinations, China is aiming to profit from the growing demand by marketing Chinese wedding locations in India.

Chinese Consul General Wang Xuefeng, fascinated by extravagant weddings in India, said that China is competitively marketing a number of Chinese cities like Dali, Lijiang and Kunming as charming destinations for weddings.

According to Wang, more and more Indian families are going out of their way to other countries such as Dubai and Thailand for their weddings.

But, recently, they are now interested in visiting attractive cities in China such as the city of spring, Kunming; the city of romance, Lijiang; and the city of beautiful pagodas, Dali.

Wang added that discussions with Indian firms and tour companies are being deliberated so both parties can co-organize Indian weddings in China.

"We are encouraging Indian companies to find partners in China. We will organise hotels, transportation, decorations; besides we are already setting up several new restaurants specialising in Indian food," the Chinese consul general said.

In addition, Wang also requested for better Sino-Indian collaboration in other areas such as commerce and trade. President Xi Jinping's meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in September echoed this partnership.

"The world's two most populous nations are partners and not competitors, having shared the same aspirations," said Wang.
