The Duane family turned a bad situation to something good by offering their cancelled $35,000 wedding reception meal at the 4-star Citizen Hotel to the homeless families in Sacramento.
Mom of the bride Kari Duane found out from her 27-year-old daughter Quinn that the wedding wasn't pushing through over the weekend.
The groom got cold feet and backed out. Duane thought that this could be an opportunity for them to give back to the community, KCRA reported.
An old woman was the first to arrive and upon seeing her, Duane said that even if she was the only one who came the high ticket homeless dinner was worth it.
Another homeless man named Rashad Abdullah said that it was a blessing to experience the special meal. He shared that it's hard to do something different especially when you're struggling financially.
Families came with their kids who had the chance to experience a full, sumptuous meal.
Erika Craycraft said that what the Duane family is really kind and giving. She said that losing something precious then giving it to somebody instead is hard to do.
The food consists of scrumptious appetizers, cauliflower, salmon, gnocchi, and tri-tip. The reception was good for 120 guests.
Despite the smiles and full stomachs, Quinn is still in grief and opted to stay at home with her friends. She left the entertaining to her parents.
Duane said that although she feels a lot of heartache and heartbreak for her daughter, she knows that something good will come out of it.
Part of the wedding price tag includes a nonrefundable honeymoon, so Sunday mother and daughter will set off for Belize.
The $35,000 package includes a non-refundable honeymoon trip to Belize, BBC reported. The mom and daughter will use it instead for a much-needed getaway.
