Layla Heartfilia
The latest chapter of Fairy Tail commences with the "Naked Battle" but there were also fully clothed warriors.
The bath scene with Brandish and Lucy provided fanservice and hilarity but the big teaser that will trigger the discussion is how "chill" Brandish turned red when she found out Lucy was Layla's daughter.
What is the connection between Layla and Brandish? Why is Brandish so deep? This question has been explored at the Fairy Tail forum at MangaHelpers.
User 'kkck' said: "So... layla has a connection to the sprigan. I guess we will finally find out why she died. I wouldn't be surprised if layla was a sprigan or a candidate for one back in the day. Perhaps she died because she made zeref care for a bit?"
An intriguing take that Zeref may have had feelings for Layla at some point, citing the "curse of contradiction." It should be noted that during the revelation in chapters 449-450, Lucy's reaction raised suspicion that she knows something about what Mavis was about to say.
User 'shugin' listed some possibilities.
"My theories are...
- Brandish is Lucy's sister.
- Brandish is a close friend to Layla.
- Brandish was a little girl saved by Layla.
- Brandish kept a promise to Layla to protect her no matter what.
- Layla predicted this war and Brandish is a double agent."
Over at Reddit, fans have a slightly different take, as with user 'joshua nash:'
"So um Layla was known by one of the twelve, that was interesting and makes my mind spin with the possibilities, maybe she and brandish were sisters, or maybe she was at one point a member of the twelve but left cause of reasons, or maybe I should just let Hiro tell the story and not fuss with all the details and enjoy the ride."
The next chapter is translated to "Radiant Star" or "Morning Star." Morning Star is one of Erza's armors, and it could mean that she is the focal point-but most would be on the edge of their seat for the real score between Brandish and Layla. Will Lucy force the Spriggan to spill out her secrets?
