MSI announced its latest GS40 Phantom laptop, claiming that it is the thinnest and lightest gaming notebook to date.
The Taiwanese computer hardware manufacturer said that it only weighs just 3.5 pounds and measures 0.86 inches thick, but will boast decent hardware. MSI says that the sixth generation GS40 Phantom features the latest Intel Skylake, promising that the gaming laptop does not compromise the performance, Slash Gear reported.
GS40 Phantom features an Intel Core i7-6700HQ Skylake CPU clockes at 2.6 GHz and has a 16GB of DDR4 RAM at 2133 MHz paired with a 128GB PCIe SSD and a 1 TB SATA hard drive under the hood. For graphics, it sports an Nvidia GeForce GTX 970M, which has 3GB of GDDR5 memory.
The GS40 Phantom has a 14-inch display with 1920 x 1080 screen resolution. It comes with Dynaudio speakers, along with an ESS Sabre Hi-Fi Audio DAC. The laptop offers 3D and virtual 7.1 surround sound in high definition. Display ports include one HDMI and one mini-Display Port, and the MSI's USB 3.1 Type-C port which can handle up to two daisy-chained 4K displays.
The GS40 Phantom is also loaded with multimedia hardware features, such as Nahimic Audio Enhancer, SteelSeries backlit keyboard, Windows 10, and True Color for color accuracy. It will also be the first gaming laptop to sport a mechanical keyboard with Cherry MX Brown key switches.
Andy Tung, president of MSI Pan America, said that GS40 Phantom is a breakthrough in design, combining the power of bigger gaming laptops with the portability of a netbook, according to Maximum PC. He added that the lighter design complements its slim physique with technologies not even found in larger units.
The GS40 Phantom has a price tag of $1,600 and will arrive in November.
