Seeing how Chinese companies have made progress when it comes to food safety, U.S-based Ecolab Inc. awarded more than 30 companies in Shanghai for upholding international food safety standards.
Carrefour, Yakult, and Shanghai Min were among the 33 companies recognized in the Seven-Star awards for best supply chain management, best quality control, best innovative healthy food and best corporate social responsibility.
Tim Wang, senior vice president of Ecolab and Ecolab China general manager, said that there were over a hundred food enterprise companies who registered to compete for the said awards this year.
Wang said that the Food Safety Law was promulgated and implemented five years ago, and Ecolab has seen some progress made by China with regards to food safety.
He added that food safety information provided to the public has been transparent since several companies and enterprises have dealt food safety with utmost importance through the years. The exchanges within the food industry have also become frequent.
In 2012, a report from the FSR Magazine said that Ecolab has partnered with the National Restaurant Association (NRA) in engaging with the Chinese market to discuss the importance of food safety. Through the ServSafe International program, series of trainings were given to Chinese food service industry professionals and government officials.
The report said that the NRA continues to work with Ecolab in China in expanding ServSafe International presence. The campaign is made available to dozens of markets globally and guides multinational restaurants in providing high standards of food safety to consumers.
