Last Friday, the Ultimate Fighting Champion reinstated its long-time light heavyweight champion, Jon "Bones" Jones, after he was suspended and stripped off his title subsequently.
Aside from garnering attention from diehard mixed martial arts fans, this move by the UFC cleared the way for an immediate rematch with reigning champion, Daniel Cormier.
For his part, UFC president, Dana White, stated that Jones would definitely have a direct title shot following his return - a scenario that Cormier highly expected.
"Congrats to Jon "Bones" Jones on his reinstatement to the UFC," Cormier said on his Facebook post. "For MMA fans this is a good day. A guy that has shown to be one of the greatest fighters of all time is back.
He continued: "As a competitor there could be no other outcome and this is the best news I've heard in a long time."
Like majority of Jones' supporters, Cormier believes that his rival is now on the right path to revive his UFC career, as well as get his life back on track.
"Jon has said the right things and his actions are backing his words up," the current UFC Light Heavyweight Champion claimed. "We all hope this is the last time we have to deal with anything like that. And lastly as a fan u get to see [see] 2 of the best fighters compete against each other."
Cormier concluded: "With that being said I can't wait to compete against him again."
The former Olympic wrestler is currently taking a short break, following his hard-fought victory against Swedish contender, Alexander "The Mauler" Gustafsson.
On the surface, it's a win-win situation for all parties involved as Jones gets to have a chance to reclaim a title he never lost; the UFC to once again showcase arguably the best pound-for-pound MMA fighter today; and Cormier to cement his legacy as a legitimate champion.
Of course, it's a fight that fans really want to see so it'll be a huge win for them when the rematch happens.
To put things plain and simple: everyone wins.
On the contrary, the only loser, though, would be one Ryan Bader.
