The five member acapella group "Pentatonix" released their first self-titled studio album last Oct. 16, Friday, with the album leading on the Billboard 200.
After nearly two weeks, the studio album has sold over 98,400 units ahead of singer Demi Lovato's latest album "Confident." "Pentatonix" includes the acapella group's full collection of original songs including their lead single "Can't Sleep Love."
In addition, Pentatonix is considered the first acapella group to lead with album sales on the Billboard 200 as reported by USA Today. This achievement includes the group to have their first highest-charting album from their first four consecutive releases. It was also reported that sales reached 88,000 in the first week of the album's release.
While Pentatonix is currently overjoyed with the announcement of their success, the group still aims to repeat this achievement by launching a deluxe edition of their high selling Christmas album "That's Christmas To Me," which will be sold on October 30th.
The five member acapella group first started on their road to fame through Youtube by posting unique and innovative covers of different songs. Due to the number of viewers in their videos and channel, they have been recognized as one of the premiere acapella groups in the US.
With a Grammy Award, sold out tours and now a chart-topping album added to their credentials, Pentatonix seems to be aiming high in their musical career.
The album "Pentatonix" is the group's fifth top ten title after the previous year's song "That's Christmas To Me" and other hits.
Additionally, "Cool For The Summer" singer Demi Lovato with her album "Confident" is currently in second place with 1,000 albums short than the acapella group as reported by Forbes. After the a competition between the singer and the group for the top position the past week, album sales for the Disney star were not able to surpass the Youtube stars.
