Samsung Galaxy S5 owners who are currently subscribed to AT&T will be pleased to know that the company started to roll out Firmware Over The Air (FOTA) update to upgrade their smartphone's operating system from Android 4.4.4 KitKat to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.
AT&T Samsung Galaxy S5 owners will receive the update starting Oct. 22. Aside from the upgrade to the newer Android 5.1.1 Lollipop operating system, the update will also patch some known security issues.
Some known bugs that will be fixed with the update include the Stagefright 1.0 and Stagefright 2.0 exploits. The update is also limited to the Galaxy S5 (SM-G900A) model. The Galaxy S5 Active (SM-G870A) and the Galaxy S5 Mini (SM-G800A) will not receive the update, according to The Next Digit.
The upgrade to the Lollipop operating system will also fix the Ultra Power Save mode glitch that messes with the Galaxy S5's on-device encryption. Features like the Android for Work which provide employees with productivity tools and allows to securely and seamlessly access their workplaces' networks using their devices will be part of the Lollipop upgrade.
According to Neurogadget, the update size will be somewhere between 610MB and 999MB, depending on the current build version of the device. AT&T advices S5 owners to connect to a Wi-Fi network when downloading the update in order to avoid reaching their mobile data cap. Owners are also advised to charge their device's battery to at least 50 percent in order to continuously download the update.
The update will change the smartphone's Android version to 5.1.1, baseband version to G900AUCU4COI5, kernel version to 3.4.0-586384, and build number to LMY47X.G900AUCU4COI5.
