An alliance of companies has been formed over the weekend with the aim of supporting the growth of China's electronic sports (e-sports) industry, according to a Saturday report by news portal qq.com.
The alliance, which is made up of 12 companies, will have a rotating presidency, with Wang Sicong, son of Dalian Wanda Group Co. chairperson Wang Jianlin, becoming its first president.
The 12 companies of the alliance are made up of firms that design and distribute online and mobile games, including Beijing Kunlun Tech Co. and Perfect World Co., which are listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange and the NASDAQ, respectively.
Another company that joined the alliance is Panda TV, a game-streaming service that was backed by Wang Sicong in July, the report added.
Liu Zhigang, the secretary-general of the alliance, was quoted in the report having said that the e-sports sector is expected to expand with the growing number of mobile device users.
"The alliance aims for more cooperation between companies to help the country's e-sports industry grow," said Liu.
A new platform under the alliance called the "Hero Pro League" has been designed for diversified e-sports events. It will also allow online game providers and operators to introduce better games, according to news portal ifeng.com.
A prize of 200,000 yuan ($31,506) in cash is being offered to attract players to the alliance's events, according to ifeng.com's report.
The mobile e-sports industry is expected to make 5.09 billion yuan in revenue in 2015, maintaining a growth rate of 35 percent in the next few years, according to an Oct. 22 report by iResearch, a market research firm based in Beijing.
