"X-Men" star Halle Berry has ended her two year marriage with "Unfaithful" actor Olivier Martinez. The couple issued a joint statement on Oct. 27, Tuesday, citing irreconcilable differences for the split.
"We move forward with love and respect for one another and the shared focus of what is best for our son," the actors told CNN in an official declaration.
Berry married the French actor after a whirlwind romance in 2013 during a private ceremony in France. The couple was blessed with a son soon after.
Although the estranged couple has refused to divulge details on the reason of their split, sources close to the them told People that they had many differences right from the start, a major one being their living situation.
While both Berry and Martinez wanted to settle down somewhere in Europe, the former had to stay in Los Angeles since she was involved in an ugly custody battle of her daughter, Nahla Ariela, from her ex-boyfriend and model, Gabriel Aubry.
Martinez's infamous hot temper reportedly has further triggered the breakdown of his marriage. The actor was known for his violent side owing to the couple of incidents, including the one where he shoved an empty car seat toward an LAX employee as he, Berry and the kids exited the airport earlier this year. The estranged couple is facing a $5 million lawsuit from the employee who was injured at the time of the incident.
Over the past one year, Berry and Martinez had grown apart owing to the former's hectic work schedule due to which the latter was feeling bored and lonely in Los Angeles.
