Google's Nexus 6P is getting rave reviews but Android fans will likely need to wait for the device a little longer as reports indicate that the first batch of deliveries for the 2015 flagship will be delayed. The Nexus 5X, on the other hand, is said to be facing display issues.
As confirmed by Google, specific models of the Nexus 6P will be unable to reach their destinations on October 28, the date that Play Store is supposed begin fulfilling preorders for the device. In a letter sent to Rob Jackson of Phandroid, the Nexus maker blamed "the strong demand we're seeing for the color and memory size you ordered," for what appeared as temporary supply shortage.
Jackson said on his report that he picked the white Nexus 6P with LTE access and 128GB of internal memory at $650. Judging from Google' notice, it looks like that the delays will only affect the 128GB edition of the 6P.
But the tech giant gave assurance that 6P buyers will not be waiting for long as deliveries will certainly resume between November 7 and 14. In Jackson's case, he was given a $25 refund for the trouble with Google noting that "we'll process soon after your phone ships."
Buyers can also cancel their orders if the delay will prove too inconvenient, the letter said.
The delay or supply shortage, however, seems to also affect customers outside of the United States. According to Tech Times, the Nexus 6P release date in India gas been moved from October 21 to first week of November.
No specific reason was given for the pushback but a representative by Huawei, which manufactured the 6P, was quoted by the same report as saying, "our supply chain is working on priority to fulfill the demand and the smartphones will be shipped out in batches."
Meanwhile, the smaller Nexus 5X may not be dealing with the same problem but a few early owners of the pure Android handset are complaining of yellow hue on the display, G4Games said in a report Fortunately, Google readily replaced the defective units but the replacements seem plagued with the same screen issue.
The same blog report added that 5X display malfunction was also seen during the Nexus 4 and 5 rollouts in 2012 and 2013, respectively. All three devices were assembled for Google by LG.
Also, it is interesting to note that like Nexus 6P the LG Nexus 4 launch was marked by insufficient supplies though in a more alarming level. Frustrated buyers were made to wait for months as Google scrambled to meet the unexpected heavy demand that the device had generated.
