Despite the popular clamor backing its rumored entry to the Super Smash Bros. 4 brawl, it's all but confirmed that Shovel Knight is skipping the upcoming DLC update for the super-hit Nintendo game. The confirmation came directly from Shovel Knight creator Yacht Club.
Yacht Club took to Twitter in bringing the bad news that shortlisting Shovel Knight as part of the rumored Super Smash expansion could prove a mistake. For one, the developer indicated that nothing related to the character joining the current crop of Smashers is in the works.
But the most important piece of information revealed by Yacht Club - Shovel Knight at its current form is incompatible with the Super Smash platform. It was suggested that the character emerged as the top choice in the Fighter Ballot conducted by Nintendo, which explains the strong support gathered by the Knight clad in blue.
Fortunately, Nintendo has a deep bench of characters to pick from if indeed Shovel Knight will suit up one of the exciting new Smashers. Among the most talked-about is the Inklings from Splatoon. Its ability to transform from a kid to a squid and back is a welcome addition to the game title.
Then there's Professor Layton that according to Master Herald will be imported from the Nintendo 3DS roster. The character as an add-on should come as no surprise being an insider in the Nintendo universe, the report added.
More have been mentioned - Dixie Kong, King R. Rool, Ridley, Wolf O'Donnell and Isaac are just a few of the most whispered about. But really the point is, there are too many to take the slot that Shovel Knight is unable to fill. In fact, according to Parent Herald, three brawlers can be accommodated in if the latest rumors about the Super Smash DLC are to be believed.
And the same report also revealed that as many as three new stages will be packed with the planned Nintendo expansion for the delight of Smash Bros gamers. "There appears to have three vacant character slots (with placeholders coded Mario) in the patch," the Parent Herald reported.
So the excitement continues to build up as Nintendo deliberately keeps its silence and leave the hordes of Super Smash Bros. 4 fans guessing on when the DLC release date will actually happen and what will be unpacked.
