New details of the features to be included in the Shanghai Disney Resort set to open next year were revealed Thursday in a travel tradeshow held in Shanghai.
According to the project developers, the Shanghai resort that will come second in expanse to the one in Orlando, would include an 800-room hotel that would be the first ever to have Disney's "Toy Story" theme.
Aside from that, the Shanghai Disneyland Hotel would also be built in the Disney Resort and would have 420 rooms, all inspired by Art Nouveau and a bit of the imaginative world of Disney.
Disney and its Chinese partner Shanghai Shendi Group are also planning on creating a resort similar to the one the American entertainment company built in Anaheim that has three hotels and a shopping district as well as eight Disney-themed areas.
The project, which has an estimated cost of nearly $5 billion, would also have six themed lands, such as the Enchanted Storybook Castle, the pirate-themed Treasure Cove and the Garden of the Twelve Friends based on the 12 animal signs in the Chinese horoscope.
"The Shanghai Disney Resort will . . . offer the same spirit of 'shared family entertainment' that Walt Disney first introduced nearly 60 years ago," Shanghai Disney Resort General Manager Philippe Gas explained.
To be built near the themed areas is a Disney town, complete with stores, restaurants and a theater, covering almost 500,000 square feet of land.
A restaurant called Spice Alley would be offering popular Asian cuisines, and a shopping district based on the Broadway Boulevard in Beverly Hills would also be present.
Construction of the 3.9-square-kilometer resort began in 2011 in the Pudong New District and is expected to be done by 2015.
The sixth of its kind worldwide, the Shanghai Disney Resort is expected to attract thousands of visitors upon its inauguration next year.
