Jiangxi's Commission of Tourism Development, in partnership with the People's Daily Online, has invited more than 40 journalists from foreign-language media to visit Jiangxi Province until Nov. 20 to promote its tourism and local attractions to the rest of the world.
The promo tour will be graced by 44 representatives from 18 foreign media companies and 11 foreign-language media outlets within China, according to China Daily.
The tour participants will be treated to a guided trip that starts from Nanchang and will cover most of the province's main tourist attractions, including Wuyuan, which is known as China's most beautiful village; Mount Sanqingshan, which is a UNESCO world heritage-listed site; and Jingdezhen, where China's best porcelains are still being manufactured.
Yao Yaping, head of Publicity Department of Jiangxi Province, briefed the reporters beforehand about the purpose of the event.
Yao said: "Every country has its unique history and culture, and the best way to understand it is to visit. We hope to use this opportunity to exchange different cultures, and hear feedback and advice."
Zhu Hong, the vice-governor of the province, told the tour participants that he is sincerely hoping that the beautiful natural scenery and unique cultural customs of Jiangxi could be made known to the rest of the world through the event so that more and more people would understand the place better, love it more, and make more frequent visits.
Jiangxi, it is claimed, was also the cradle of the Chinese revolution. The capital of Nanchang was the birthplace of the people's army and the Jinggangshan Mountain was China's rural revolutionary base. Ruijin is still known as the "Former Red Capital" of China.
The province was also historically a center of the Chan-sect of Buddhism, the precursor of today's still popular Zen.
Jiangxi covers an area of 166,900 square kilometers, with a population of 44.88 million. Aside from Nanjing, the other major cities of the province are Jiujang, Ganzhou, Jingdezhen, Xinyu, Pingxiang, Ji'an, Yichun, Yingtan, Fuzhou and Shangrao.
