The builder of the world's fastest two-seat, pure-electric sports car revealed on Friday that a Chinese customer is set to receive a unit of the vehicle within weeks.
Detroit Electric said that with the car, the owner can reach 100 km per hour from idle in just 3.9 seconds and peak at a speed of 249 km per hour.
The firm has rolled off its new production line for the SP:01 electric sports cars at Central England's Leamington Spa.
A Detroit Electric spokeswoman told the Xinhua News Agency on Friday that the first unit of the car model was earmarked for a Chinese customer. Nonetheless, the identity of the buyer is still not revealed.
The lightweight SP:01 will be available in the Asian and European markets over the coming weeks, a company statement said. The model features a 285-horsepower and 210-kilowatt electric motor, and is comprised of a carbon fiber body combined with an aluminum chassis.
The firm said it will shortly reveal the price of the electric car.
Detroit Electric Chairman and CEO Albert Lam said, "We are thrilled to see our first production car roll off the line at our U.K. manufacturing site. Our first customer is sure to appreciate the unique experience of driving the SP:01 as we've worked hard to develop technologies that ensure it is one of the most rewarding pure electric sports cars to drive."
Detroit Electric was first established in the United States in 1907 and has since cemented its status as a global leader in terms of manufacturing electric cars.
The firm, which was revived in 2008 by Lam, has a network of distributors across Asia and Europe.
