In 2013, "Super Mario-kun" beat "Doraemon" as the longest running manga from Corocoro Comics. The 50th volume of the manga was released on Oct. 28.
According to Anime News Network, Sawada will create a series of "Super Mario Maker" levels and will be shared all over the world via the World Course mode. The collaboration between Sawada and Nintendo is part of the plan to mark the 25th anniversary of the "Super Mario-kun" manga and the 30th anniversary of the "Super Mario" franchise.
Gamers who were able to beat the levels created by Sawada will receive the "Mario-kun" special playable character in the game. The "Mario-kun" character is specially designed based on its 2D 8-bit counterpart. Additionally, it has its own sprites and animation.
"Super Mario Maker" levels created by Sawada will be available starting Nov. 6.
