Jared Leto's character in David Ayer's forthcoming DC Comics film "Suicide Squad" might be larger than fans have assumed.
Leto is playing Gotham's Clown Prince, the Joker, in Ayer's "Suicide Squad." The character was featured in two major scenes in the film's previous footage and trailer, as per Comic Book. This includes the set photos showing him the sports car with Batman on the roof and torturing someone at the end of the Comic-Con trailer.
According to Cinema Blend, the Joker is the Thanos of DC's Cinematic Universe, where he would serve as a forceful villain who would show up in several films before he makes a greater impact. The publication added that Leto's Joker would be the Hannibal Lecter of the group and is assumed to be manipulative in the film. However, Joker is not the target of the Suicide Squad in the film; it is Cara Delevingne's Enchantress.
Leto's version of the villain has been viewed as different from other incarnations of the character. The actor also teased his role using social media platforms like Twitter and he has displayed a terrifying take on the character in the trailers with his maniac laugh and sinister grin.
Along with Leto and Delevingne, "Suicide Squad" also stars Viola Davis, Joel Kinnaman, Common, Scott Eastwood, Jay Hernandez, Adam Beach, Adawale Akinnuoye-Agbaje Karen Fukuhara, Jai Courtney, Will Smith, and Margot Robbie, among others.
Ayer's "Suicide Squad" is set to premiere in theaters on Aug. 5, 2016. Watch the official "Suicide Squad" Comic-Con trailer here:
