"The Daily Show" host Trevor Noah will be back on air on Thursday night. For Wednesday, the producers decided to air a repeat episode since Noah had an emergency appendectomy that morning.
According to Comedy Central, the host is recovering from the unexpected surgery which went well, reports NBC. The announcement means Noah's rest is barely for two days, inclusive of the day he had the procedure and the night he goes back on air.
Thanks to advances in advances in surgery, if the procedure was done using a laparoscope, recovery time is faster for patients, according to WebMD. Return to normal activities after the standard 12-hour surgery is two to three weeks. A laparoscope is a tiny surgical instrument that looks like a telescope to view the inside of the abdomen. By using it, incision is smaller and helps in speeding up the recovery time.
The 31-year-old Noah became host of the show in September after former host for 15 years Jon Stewart stepped down in August. Noah, a South African, is reportedly having lower audience share compared to Stewart. Most of his viewers are younger people who view his show digitally and not on traditional TV broadcast.
Some of Noah's friends, such as Jimmy Fallon, another comedian, wished him speedy recovery. Comedy Central, in a statement, wished the host "a speedy recovery from his time in an American hospital" without disclosing his location. It adds, "We expect he and the show will be back with an original episode tomorrow."
On Nov. 22, Noah will appear in a one-hour special titled "Trevor Noah: Lost in Translation" on Comedy Central, reports LA Times.
