Academy Award winner Nicole Kidman could play the character Hippolyta in Patty Jenkins' forthcoming DC Comics film "Wonder Woman."
According to Cinema Blend, Kidman playing the role of Wonder Woman's mother, Hippolyta, was the most common postulation at the time being. The publication mentioned that it would fit Kidman's role as a "high ranking Amazon" and the role was strong enough for Kidman to give justice in the film, without overriding the titular superhero.
Hippolyta is also regarded as the queen of the Amazons on Themyscira, in addition to being Wonder Woman's mother. This entails that the character would serve as an iconic and motivating figure to the island's people.
Kidman is in talks to be part of Jenkin's "Wonder Woman," according to The Wrap. Whether fans would see the actress play Hippolyta or another character is yet to be revealed.
Kidman is known for her roles in Alejandro Amenabar's horror thriller film "The Others," Baz Luhrmann's musical drama "Moulin Rouge!," Stanley Kubrick's drama thriller "Eyes Wide Shut," and Chris Weitz's adventure film "The Golden Compass."
Aside from Jenkins' "Wonder Woman," Kidman is also set to be part of Billy Ray's mystery thriller "Secret In The Eyes," John Cameron Mitchell's comedy romance "How to Talk to Girls at Parties," and Garth Davis' drama film "Lion."
Prior to her solo "Wonder Woman" film, Gal Gadot is set to debut her character in Zack Snyder's "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice." She is set to share the screen with Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller, Ray Fisher, Jesse Eisenberg, and Amy Adams, among others, in Snyder's film.
Gadot is also joined by "Star Trek" actor Chris Pine, who is set to play the role of Steve Trevor, Wonder Woman's love interest.
Snyder's "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" is set to be aired in two separate teasers on Oct. 26 while the film is slated to premiere in theaters in the United States on Mar. 25, 2016. Meanwhile, Jenkin's "Wonder Woman" hits theaters on June 23, 2017.
