An exhibition showcasing the works of Chinese painter Sun Zixi premiered on Friday at the China Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) Art Museum, according to a report by the Global Times.
'"The Eternity of the Past: The Artistic Life of Sun Zixi" is a career-spanning feature of the works of one of the progenitors of modern Chinese oil painting.
The exhibit puts a spotlight on the life and development of the 85-year-old Sun as artist, and, as such, it features drafts and sketches from the 1940s--when he was drafted into The Eighth Route Army--through to his later pieces.
Some of the sketches are accompanied by letters to friends where he describes them, providing a glimpse into the artist's creative process and work development.
The show, which will run until Jan. 4, also has on display images and early drafts of "Tiananmenqian," one of the pieces Sun is most known for and considered to be among the greatest "red classic" oil paintings of the last century.
Sun was born in 1929 in Shandong Province and studied from 1955 to 1958 in the CAFA, where he also taught later on.
The painter has held exhibitions in New York and France.
