The second China-Russia Cultural Forum kicked off Thursday, Nov. 27, in Beijing with Chinese Vice Minister of Culture Ding Wei delivering the opening remarks, and with Wang Meng, a former Chinese Minister of Culture and one of China's most revered writers, among the guests of honor.
Wang, in his remarks, said: "A big issue Chinese culture is now faced with is how to carry forward the tradition and retain the characteristics of Chinese culture while joining the best parts of other advanced, more modern cultures. Here, I want to particularly mention that, as China took steps toward modernization, our country has been nurtured by the culture of Russia."
Vladimir Medinsky, the incumbent Russian Culture Minister who is also a writer himself, led a delegation in joining the two-day exhibit.
The second China-Russia Cultural Forum was held in five sub-venues categorized in terms of the topics taken up, including one on "youth culture and entrepreneurship," another one on "border cultural exchanges" and another on "co-operation between the two countries' entertainment industries."
For instance, at the venue which took up the theme of "youth culture and entrepreneurship," participants from both sides explored and tried to address issues pertaining to contemporary cultural exchange of China and Russia's younger generations, to their cultural consumption and to their art life during the first part of the forum. The second day of the affair was devoted to the sharing by the participants of their own business experience in the cultural industry in their respective countries.
There were reportedly over 50 government representatives, cultural experts and scholars as well as entrepreneurs and businessmen from the two countries who took part in the second China-Russia Cultural Forum in Beijing.
The first China-Russia Cultural Forum was held in December 2013 in Saint Petersburg at Russia's initiative.
For the past two decades, China and Russia have witnessed the steady development of bilateral cultural exchanges and cooperation.
Last year, the two countries celebrated the 10th anniversary of the signing of the "China-Russia Treaty of Good-Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation."
