Activision Blizzard's "Call of Duty" is set to now geared to set up its own cinematic universe.
According to Cinema Blend, video game publisher Activision Blizzard Studios had announced the establishment of its own production studio, along with the blueprint of setting up its cinematic universe. The publication said that it is a "near term" plan, in which the publisher extends its arms to yield several "Call of Duty" films and television projects, too.
It is unknown at this point whether the first television project is entering its first phase of development or things are still starting to heat up; however, the prime release is projected to happen in 2018 or 2019. According to MTV, the first "Call of Duty" cinematic adaptation from Activation Blizzard Studios would be "Skylanders," which is a fantasy video game series set to have its own adaptation in the small screen.
In his previous interview, Activision CEO Boccy Kotick said that he and his team had to ascertain that anything that related to any of the company's franchises was produced and developed with the same commitment to excellence that they had. He added that the only way they would ensure that that would have happened would have been to do it themselves.
Activision Blizzard is also one of the biggest video game companies, a gaming giant behind "Call of Duty" and "World of Warcraft." In fact, Legendary Pictures has released the first trailer for Duncan Jones' forthcoming film "Warcraft," which is also a cinematic adaptation of Activision Blizzard's longest-running computer game series.
"Warcraft" is set to showcase a three-dimensional epic adventure of a world-colliding conflict basedon the Warcraft video games series. The film is set in the world of Azeroth and will center on the origin events prior to the conflict between the Humans of Stormwind and the Orcish Horde. The film stars Travis Fimmel, Toby Kebbel, Robert Kazinsky, Clancy Brown, Dominic Cooper, Paul Patton, and Ben Foster, among others.
With Jones set to helm the film, Charles Leavitt and Chris Metzen are on board to co-pen the film's screenplay. Nicholas Carpenter, Michael Morhaime, Brent O'Connor, Paul Sams, and Jillian Share will co-produce the film, among others. Bill Westenhoffee, Ang Lee, and Jeff White are in charge of special effects while Ramin Dwajadi is set to score the film.
Activision Blizzard's "Call of Duty" canon is yet to be revealed while Jones' "Warcraft" is slated to premiere in theaters in the United States on June 10, 2016.
