Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed on Wednesday that he wants China and the European Union (EU) to keep on making high-level exchanges with each other to further develop their comprehensive strategic ties.
While the Chinese president was speaking to Donald Tusk, the president of the European Council, over the phone, Xi said that China is prepared to collaborate with the European Union to push through with the China-EU 2020 Strategic Agenda for Cooperation and is aiming for mutually beneficial outcomes.
Xi urged both parties to bolster coordination and communication on important global and regional issues and to become a good example of strategic partnerships in the international arena.
During Xi's visit to the EU headquarters earlier this year, Xi and other EU leaders decided to cooperatively build a China-EU relationship which focuses on growth, civilization, peace and reform, and planned the potential developments of the partnership.
According to Xi, consensus reached between the EU leaders and Chinese officials is currently being implemented.
In 2015, the China-EU diplomatic partnership will turn 40 years old, Xi said.
Tusk expressed his gratitude for the Chinese president's congratulations for being elected as the president of the European Council and said that he is eager to maintain diplomatic ties with Xi.
According to Tusk, Xi's visit to the headquarters has planted a good foundation for further development on the two sides' relationship. Tusk also said that the China-EU partnership is significant to both the European Union, China and to the rest of the world.
Tusk added that the EU will be promoting further political exchanges and push for more practical collaboration in several areas for the development of the China-EU partnership.
