The Memphis Grizzlies are losing their contender status and there are rumors that they might blow the team up.

However, this is still a very good team with strong pieces in Marc Gasol, Zach Randolph and Mike Conley. The hope is that the team can still become competitive with the addition of shooters.

The NBA Fansided site Sir Charles In Charge contended that the Grizzlies should take "drastic action" as they are "spiraling out of relevancy (sic)." The reasons for their downfall is not really that difficult to identify.

"The Grizzlies have known of their own subpar shooting for years, yet have maintained a hesitancy to dip into free agency and alleviate their issues. While the most recent additions of Courtney Lee, Jeff Green and Matt Barnes are nice, even they cannot fix the institutional problem of stagnancy."

Short of fully blowing up the team, The Grizzlies can orchestrate some roster changes but that is easier said than done. The "3 and D" player is now the prototype that all teams are looking for, especially after the Golden State Warriors took the title behind the best three point shooting we've seen in decades.

With the Grizzlies having solid defense, perhaps they can acquire a shooter and cover his defensive shortcomings, if only to give the team a new look and try to convince Mike Conley not to leave in free agency.

In a Real GM thread, it was suggested that the Memphis Grizzlies take a chance on Nick Young. While he still has three years on his contract, $ 5.5 million is not a lot considering the projected salary cap spike. At this point, it may be better for the Grizzlies to try something as user 'Karmaloop' points out.

"One team that immediately comes to mind is Memphis. They've got virtually nothing resembling any sort of bench offense. The Grizz could essentially swap Vince Carter's corpse for Nick Young. Obviously, the Grizz lose some cap flexibility; however, they probably won't be anywhere close enough to have significant cap space. Lakers get out of Nick Young's contract."

Just how far will the Grizzlies slide? Will they be desperate enough to take a chance on Swaggy P?
