A museum in honor of well-known Chinese sage and philosopher Confucius will open next year in the area of his hometown, according to a Global Times report.
The Confucius Museum, which is currently being constructed, is located in Qufu City in Shandong Province, which is near his birthplace in ancient Zou, Lu state.
To be displayed and kept in the museum will be more than 100,000 relics and artworks related to the teachings and life of Confucius, and state-of-the-art technology will be used to present the precious items.
The museum complex, covering a total floor area of 90,000 square meters, has several structures, among which are its main exhibition area and six smaller halls.
Construction of the main building of the complex is finished, according to a city official, adding that the museum will be an important cultural center.
Confucius was born in the area in 551 B.C., during the Spring and Autumn period.
As an educator, he was the first Chinese to establish private schools.
Confucianism, the school of thought he founded and developed, remains a popular philosophical system and is at times considered a religion.
