In the wake of its recent failure in the Golden Horse Awards, Zhang Yimou's drama "Coming Home" will once again compete at an international film festival after being nominated in the 2015 Golden Globe Awards.
"Coming Home," which stars actress Gong Li and actor Chen Daoming, is one of three Chinese films nominated for Best Foreign Language Film in the 72nd Golden Globe Awards together with Peter Chan's "Dearest" and former blogger Han Han's debut film "The Continent."
The film made its international premiere during the 2014 Cannes Film Festival where it was shown in the "out of competition" section.
It was based on an adaptation of the novel written by novelist Geling Yan entitled "The Criminal Lu Yanshi," which is about a professor's journey back to his wife, Feng Wanyu and daughter Dandan, after being sent to a labor camp during the Cultural Revolution in China.
Aside from the other Chinese flicks, Zhang's film will also be competing against other foreign movies nominated in the same category, including France's "Venus in Fur" and "Mommy" as well as Russia's "Leviathan."
In Taiwan, Zhang Yimou's film was nominated in several categories during the 2014 Golden Horse Awards. Unfortunately, the film failed to bag any award.
Gong Li, who plays the role of Feng Wanyu in "Coming Home," expressed her disappointment at not getting the Best Actress award in the Golden Horse Awards, citing that the award-giving body's judging process is flawed.
During the upcoming Golden Globes set to be held on Jan. 11, the Chinese drama film gets another chance at bagging an international award.
Comediennes Tina Fey and Amy Poehler would be returning to the Golden Globes stage for the third time to host the event.
