Virtual reality fans and enthusiasts alike will be pleased to know that South Korean tech giant Samsung is now accepting preorder for its Samsung Gear VR headset. The virtual reality headset will cost $99.
The Samsung Gear VR was developed by the joint effort of Samsung and Facebook-owned Oculus VR. The two companies claim that the Gear VR is the first mass produced virtual reality headset to hit the market.
The Gear VR can render computer-generated virtual reality worlds where users can play games and view photographs as well as photos. The virtual reality headset requires a compatible smartphone. As expected, the headset supports Samsung's latest line of flagship devices; the Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge and the Galaxy S6 Edge+.
The success or failure of virtual reality devices is still unpredictable. Many analysts believe that for the platform to proliferate, it must be accompanied by a good mix of video games and videos ported into the virtual reality platform.
According to CNet, Oculus has a fairly impressive virtual reality games slated to be released on the Gear VR platform. Among these titles is the "Land's End" from Ustwo Games, "Bandit Six: Salvo" from Climax Studios and "Dead Secret" by Robot Invader. All the mentioned games are currently available for purchase on the Oculus Store.
According to PC Mag, the Gear VR pre-ordered via Amazon, Best Buy and Samsung's online store. Shipment of the headset will start on Nov. 20. Additionally, the headset will be released Best Buy physical stores on Nov. 20 and T-Mobile stores on Nov 27. AT&T is also rumored to add the headset on its banner but the company has yet to provide a release date.
