After playing Chuck Bass in "Gossip Girl" from 2007 to 2012, Ed Westwick returned to the small screen as Kent Crainger in "Wicked City." However, his comeback TV series apparently will not last long.
The first three episodes of "Wicked City" are low-rated so ABC decided to cancel the anthology drama set in the Sunset Boulevard during the 1980s, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Created by the Cameron Diaz starrer "Feeling Minnesota" director Steven Baigelman, "Wicked City" stars Westwick and "Parenthood" actress Erika Christensen as two serial killers-turned-lovers, Kent Crainger and Betty Beaumontaine. The story also centers on Los Angeles-based detective Jack Roth (Jeremy Sisto) and Paco Contreras (Gabriel Luna) who are on the lookout for Westwick and Christensen's characters.
The 10 p.m. slot of "Wicked City" every Tuesday on ABC will be taken over by "Shark Tank" repeats starting on Nov. 17.
Currently, the eight episode of "Wicked City" is being filmed and it will be the last episode of the period drama thriller. It has yet to be confirmed whether or not the five unaired episodes will be broadcast.
This makes "Wicked City" has become the first new series to be cancelled this fall. Recently, the period drama thriller had a 43 percent Week 3 dive to a 0.4 Live+Same Day rating among adults 18-49, Deadline reported.
Aside from Westwick, Christensen, Sisto and Luna, "Wicked City" also stars Taissa Farmiga, Jaime Ray Newman, Evan Ross, Anne Winters, Talia Toms and Olivia Moss, among others.
After the cancellation of "Wicked City," Westwick will star in "Take Down" opposite Elliot Knight and Phoebe Tonkin and in "A Conspiracy on Jekyll Island" opposite Dianna Agron and AnnaSophia Robb.
